  • USC Trojans wins over Nebraska Huskers

The USC Trojans won over the Nebraska Huskers in a score of 28-10.The contest between 19th ranked Nebraska and 4th ranked USC was perhaps the most anticipated of the bunch.

The greatest show on college turf, most notably the Heisman-winning duo of Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush, has moved on to the NFL and the gossip pages.

"It doesn't seem like sometimes we're scoring quite as fast as the guys did last year and all that," USC junior quarterback John David Booty said. "But we're really kind of a scrappy group, a lot of young guys in there too, and this being my first year.

"But we're winning games. Whether it's by 40 or it's by 1, we're winning so that's all that really matters."

This one didn't really live up to the hype as the Trojans dominated Nebraska throughout, extending their home winning streak to an impressive 28 games.

The USC Trojans made several mistakes in the kicking game and after starting fullback Ryan Powdrell went out with an ugly injury resulting to a dislocated and fractured ankle, which will require season-ending surgery, the Trojans failed to establish much of a running game.

"Their defense was really strong," said Booty, who finished 25 of 36 passing for 257 yards and three touchdowns. "They came after us, pressured us. Not every game's going to be a walk in the park."

"The game went too fast, it was like an NFL game. It's halftime and it didn't feel like you were out there yet." Coach Pete said.

The Trojans' superstars no longer wear jersey numbers like 5, 21 and 11. They're wearing 55, 58 and 96.

Quarterback John David Booty led the Trojans back with a 10-play, 83-yard drive that was capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass to All-American receiver Dwayne Jarrett with no time remaining in the first quarter.

The touchdown was the 30th of Jarrett's career, tying him with Mike Williams for the most receiving touchdowns in USC history.

Jarett would take sole possession of the record in the second half, before finishing with 11 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

"We've been working hard all week to get our timing down," Jarrett said of establishing a rhythm with his quarterback. "I just pushed myself all week, and it worked out."
