  • Ting brothers to leave USC football team
    By Garry Paskwietz
    Jul 29, 2006

With less than a week to go before the start of fall camp, USC seniors Ryan and Brandon Ting have confirmed the surprising news that they will be leaving the Trojan football program effective immediately in order to focus their attention on their medical school futures. Click below to read more.

Ryan Ting told WeAreSC tonight that the decision to leave the football program was "really, really difficult to make."

The twin brothers from James Logan High School had originally planned to take part in their senior seasons this fall while taking classes to finish up their degrees. They ended up taking the necessary classes during summer school and graduated at the end of the summer session.

Ryan had moved to offense during spring ball to work as a slot receiver and he also was being considered for the punt return job after scoring a 75 yard TD on a punt return during the Trojan Huddle. Brandon was scheduled to be the top reserve safety this fall and he had some of the biggest hits during the recent spring ball period. In addition to their regular roles, the veteran players were also expected to play a big part on special teams this year.

The Tings had achieved academic success while at USC including being honored last spring at a Phi Beta Kappa dinner and it was well known that they had their sights set on attending medical school once their football days were over. We just didn't know that day was coming so soon.
