USC football: Lewis won't be back
by SCOTT WOLF
USC wide receiver Whitney Lewis will not return next season, according to multiple sources.
Lewis, considered one of the top players in the nation when he arrived from St.Bonaventure High of Ventura, is leaving for reasons not related to football or academics, sources said. He is not working out with the rest of the Trojans and not attending summer school.
Lewis told teammates recently he would probably transfer to a Division I-A or Division II school. His family contacted Montana State last December about transferring although he denied the possibility of leaving at the time.
Lewis said then that any speculation he would transfer was "rumors as always."
"That's just random stuff, I'm a Trojan for life," he said.
Neither Lewis nor USC coach Pete Carroll could be reached for comment Thursday.
