  • C.R. Roberts

Graduated in the upper 1/8th of his class, from Oceanside Carlsbad Union High School in Oceanside California, near San Diego. Became President of his Sunday School class at Walker Chapel AME Church, established by the Late Reverend Jessie Browne. C.R. still holds the record of most touchdowns scored in San Diego County. He scored 395 points and threw for 14 more in his high school football career, he also ran the sprints and long jumped for the varsity track team.

Before C.R. graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Business Administration in 1960, he set a record that stood for over 23 years as the most yardage gained in a football game at USC. This was done in the remarkable time of only 12 minutes of playing time. C.R. was also a standout in track and field. He long jumped 24 feet 3 1/2 inches to beat Rafer Johnson the Great Olympic Champ in the 1953 SC/UCLA track meet at the Coliseum. While at USC he became active in student government. As President of his Fraternity, he was instrumental in getting legislation passed which included the Student Senate allowing women to become cheerleaders on SC's, once all male cheerleading team. He was also a member of the Campus Wesley Club, joined the University Methodist Church, and Integrated the all white Fraternities and Sororities on USC's famed Fraternity Row.

C.R. and his teammates refused to live in separate quarters or play football in a segregated University of Texas Stadium in Austin Texas in 1956. This boycott led to the integration of black athletes into the Southwest Football Conference and black spectators being permitted to attend football games at the University of Texas Stadium in Austin.

After college, C.R. played Professional Football with the San Francisco Forty-Niners.
